Institutional Development

During its first ten years the OMM has held quarterly meetings of the Ministers of Tourism and representatives from the private and public sector. These meetings have provided a forum to discuss and resolve regional issues and conflicts and develop consensus among regional stakeholders.

In 2000, the Permanent Technical Secretariat (PTS) was created, with the technical support of the Inter-American Development Bank. There are also Mundo Maya private sector foundations and business committees in each country that support regional tourism development initiatives.

In 2001 the OMM became a legal international entity, thus allowing it to receive funds from overseas.
